Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Friday declined to threaten counter-tariffs in response to President Donald Trump's revised Aug. 1 deadline for a 35% levy, and said he will consult with cabinet Tuesday morning. 

"Throughout the current trade negotiations with the United States, the Canadian government has steadfastly defended our workers and businesses," read a statement from Carney's office. (See: MNI: Canada Approved CAD95B Geopolitical Contingency Borrowing)
