Prime Minister Mark Carney on Friday said he invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 leaders' summit being held soon in Alberta, extending Canada's goal of seeking new trade and security partners as Donald Trump threatens to make its northern neighbor the 51st State.

"The two leaders discussed the longstanding relationship between Canada and India, including deep people-to-people ties and significant commercial links," Carney said in a readout of their call. "Importantly, there was agreement to continued law enforcement dialogue and discussions addressing security concerns." That's a reference to Canada's past allegation India's government was involved in the murder of a Canadian citizen who protested India's government.
