Le Figaro reports that French PM Lecornu has proposed a "tax on financial assets" to the Socialists, in lieu of a wealth/Zucman tax, as part of ongoing budget talks (Link)
"The Prime Minister is taking a step to the left . Shortly after his meeting with Socialist elected officials this Friday morning, Sébastien Lecornu's entourage announced that he had proposed introducing "a tax on financial assets ." This would be a way to respond to their demand to force the wealthiest to make an effort in the 2026 budget, without introducing the Zucman tax."
""Certain tax optimizations for very large fortunes are not defensible ," judges the Prime Minister, who considers the tax introduced by the left "dangerous" for the economy and employment"...."Instead, Sébastien Lecornu favors "the creation of a tax on financial assets (holding) that does not affect professional assets .
