CEE: Week Ahead: Czech Election Results, NBP Rate Decision, Hungary CPI Data

Oct-03 15:24
  • CZECHIA (Sunday): Polling stations have opened today and will close tomorrow for Czechia's parliamentary elections, with the main opposition party ANO widely expected to win a plurality of seats. President Petr Pavel said that he would invite party leaders for consultations on potential coalition arrangements on Sunday. See our preview here: https://mni.marketnews.com/3ISZd3l
  • CZECHIA (Monday): Preliminary CPI data is expected to show a slight acceleration in annual inflation, to +2.6% Y/Y in September from +2.5% Y/Y in August. On a monthly basis, prices are seen falling 0.3%, compared to +0.1% in August.
  • POLAND (Wednesday): Analysts are divided on whether the National Bank of Poland will deliver another 25bp rate cut in October, with a majority (7/10 analysts polled by Bloomberg) currently leaning towards a hold. The pace of forthcoming easing is likely to become clearer when the central bank publishes its next inflation report in November, and the meeting that month is therefore seen as a more likely time to continue easing.
  • HUNGARY (Wednesday): This month’s data is expected to show that headline inflation remained above the +3.0% +/-1ppt tolerance range in September. As per an analyst survey, annual inflation likely edged higher to 4.4% Y/Y from 4.3% Y/Y in August, and this would support the case for further hawkish guidance from the National Bank of Hungary. The central bank meet next on October 21.
