US natural gas stockpiles seen up 115 bcf last week - Reuters 

  • A Reuters poll showed the average estimate of analysts called for a bigger-than-normal 115 bcf net injection of natural gas into storage last week as mild weather limited heating and cooling demand.
  • That compares with an injection of 78 bcf during the same week a year ago and a five-year (2020-2024) average increase of 87 bcf for this time of year.
  • In the prior week ended May 9, utilities added 110 bcf of gas into storage.
  • If realized, this forecast for the week ended May 16 would increase storage to 2.370 tcf, about 12.5% below the same week a year ago and around 3.7% above the five-year average for the week.
  • The EIA is scheduled to release its weekly storage report at 10:30 a.m. EDT (1430 GMT) on Thursday.
  • There were 52 total degree days last week, compared with the 30-year average of 62 for the period, data from financial firm LSEG showed.
  • Early estimates for the week ending May 23 ranged from additions of 79 bcf to 124 bcf, with an average increase of 97 bcf.
  • That compares with an injection of 84 bcf during the same week last year and a five-year average increase of 98 bcf.
