TURKEY: Unemployment Rate Falls to 8% in July from 8.4%

  • Turkey's adjusted unemployment rate fell to 8% in July from a revised 8.4% in June, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute, matching the all-time low previously recorded in March. The number of jobless fell 164k month-on-month while the adjusted labor force participation rate fell to 53.3% from a revised 53.6% prior. The composite measure of labor underutilization – the so-called "broad jobless rate" – fell to 29.6% from a revised 32.7% in June.
  • Ekonomi run a piece in which they note that Turkey lost ground in the tourism sector to Spain and Greece in the first seven months of 2025. The newspaper say high prices led Germans to choose their own country for holidays instead of Turkey, with industry representatives arguing that Turkey will be lucky to achieve last year’s figures.
  • The Turkish banking regulator publishes the industry’s monthly data at 12:00BST/14:00 local time while the Treasury & Finance Ministry publishes its domestic borrowing plan at 15:00BST/17:00 local time.
