OIL: Ukraine’s Drone Strikes Critical Threat to Russia’s Crude Output:Kpler

Sep-24 17:28

Sustained drone attacks on Russian oil infrastructure this winter could also pose a critical threat to the nation’s long-term crude production capacity, Kpler said.

  • Russian crude supply is currently around 9.15m b/d, well below the estimated sustainable capacity of 9.45m b/d.
  • Any forced well shut0ins, particularly in mature Siberian fields, risk causing permanent damage which could make a restart of production prohibitively expensive, if not impossible, Kpler added.
  • Kpler envisions that if crude exports, floating storage levels, or observed stock levels do not start increasing materially in the next weeks, it would be an indication that Russian crude supply is facing severe difficulties that could cap its capacity to rebound.
  • While it could use the underutilised Transneft pipeline system as temporary storage, this could not be extended beyond a couple of weeks.
