EMISSIONS: UK Government Leave UK ETS Unchanged Despite CCC Suggestions

In response to the Committee on Climate Change’s (CCC) suggestion to strengthen the UK ETS by introducing a higher carbon price floor, the UK government stated that it will let the market to determine UKA prices, according to the latest Carbon Budget and Growth Delivery Plan, and the Government response to the Climate Change Committee. 

  • It said that the deal on EU-UK ETS linkage is not yet agreed, and no direct adjustments have been made to account for future flows of ETS allowances between the UK and EU.
  • In response to the suggestion of including international shipping emissions in the UK ETS emissions, it said that the international shipping emissions will be included in the UK ETS once the EU and UK ETS are linked.
