SECURITY: Rosatom Offers Help On Technical Issues If Iran Nuclear Deal Reached

Jun-06 15:32

Russia’s Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation said it is "prepared to resolve any technical issues that arise if political agreements are reached on Iran’s nuclear program, TASS reported on Friday, citing the corporation’s CEO Alexey Likhachev," per Iran International. If a deal can be struck with Rosatom to supply technical assistance, it could help facilitate a US-Iran nuclear deal by backstopping Iran's civilian nuclear programme.

  • Likhachev said: "We confirm our readiness to resolve any technical issues in the event political decisions are made and a multilateral agreement on the so-called Iranian problem is in sight. Our cooperation with Iran in the nuclear sphere is developing,"
  • He added that, "collaboration with Iran includes building nuclear power units, supplying fuel to the Bushehr nuclear power plant, and joint research in the peaceful use of nuclear energy."
  • The report comes two days after US President Donald Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin offered Russia's support in resolving the standoff over Iran's nuclear programme: "I stated to President Putin that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and, on this, I believe that we were in agreement. President Putin suggested that he will participate in the discussions with Iran and that he could, perhaps, be helpful in getting this brought to a rapid conclusion."
