RUSSIA: Putin and Modi to Meet to Deepen Economic Ties

Dec-05 08:35
  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a bilateral meeting in New Delhi as part of the latter’s two-day trip to India. Previous talks have centered on defense, but Modi and Putin want to broaden cooperation to include deeper trade, migration and economic links. India and Russia are expected to finalise a mobility agreement that would allow Indian professionals to relocate to Russia, and are also expected to reach an agreement on the shipment to Russia of Indian marine products and agricultural goods.
  • Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said, according to Interfax, that while Europeans are constantly making demands that are unacceptable to Moscow and are not contributing to achieving peace in Ukraine, Russia is still encouraged with the progress in talks with US.
  • Kommersant report that the OTC USD/RUB exchange rate approached 76.00 on Thursday, falling back to its lowest level since early July. The newspaper note that the strength of the ruble is being driven by ongoing dialogue between Russia and the US, as well as increased supply of foreign currency from exporters.
  • Russian LNG exports to EU countries jumped 22% month-on-month to 1.7bcm in November, the highest figure since June, Vedomosti report citing data from Bruegel. However, the figure was down 6% year-on-year and exports to the EU in the first 11 months of 2025 overall fell 7% to 18bcm. “Analysts” cited by the newspaper expect the figure for the year to drop 7.5-11% from a record 21.3bcm in 2024.
