POLAND: President Duda To Take Oaths Of Office From Reshuffled Cabinet

Jul-24 07:06
  • The reshuffled Cabinet will attend a swearing-in ceremony at the Presidential Palace this afternoon before holding its first meeting on Friday. The rejig was part of the preparations for potentially difficult cohabitation with incoming President Karol Nawrocki halfway through the parliamentary term.
    • Government Spokesman Adam Szłapka said that the full list of deputy ministers will be unveiled by the middle of next week. Although the formal coalition agreement remains intact, the list will shed more light on changes to the informal power-sharing arrangement between government parties.
    • The promotion of Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski to the position of a Deputy Prime Minister has fuelled speculation that he might be one of the leading candidates to replace Prime Minister Tusk before the next election, should the coalition's approval ratings continue to flag.
    • The appointment of Waldemar Żurek as the new Justice Minister has been interpreted as a confrontational move intended to appease the most loyal (but minority) part of the Civic Coalition's (KO's) electorate, which prioritises bringing Law and Justice (PiS) officials to justice.
  • Parkiet reported that the deregulation team will use the holiday period to continue discussions with government agencies on potential changes to the law aimed at encouraging more IPOs at the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

A bullish condition in Gilt futures remains intact and recent weakness appears corrective. Monday’s strong gains reinforce the current bullish theme. Key short-term support has been defined 92.23, the Jun 16 low. A break of this level is required to undermine a bull theme and signal scope for a deeper retracement. On the upside, sights are on 93.68, the Jun 13 high and bull trigger.

GILTS: Opening calls
