COMMODITIES: Gold, Silver Extend Correction, Silver 14% Below the Overnight High

Dec-29 14:47

Corrective activity in precious metals extending here: spot gold has slipped further still on the US cash equity open, putting prices well through $4400 to make for a 4.25% slip off the cycle high.

  • Selling pressure in silver is even more acute, and quite lilely leading gold here: price is off 8.8% on the day and near 14% off the overnight high, with metals markets de-linking from broader market activity and clearly trading in isolation here.
  • The gold/silver ratio is suitably bouncing after hitting a low of 54.2 earlier today - but is still below Friday's highs. Despite the holiday-thinned trade, we note the very healthy activity in futures markets also: on the latest volume spike, activity in gold futures is now close to double the average for this time of day.
