Petronas has signed a sale and purchase agreement with a CNOOC unit to supply 1 m mtpa of LNG, the Malaysian company said on Dec. 24, cited by Platts.
- The deal was concluded through its subsidiary, Petronas LNG, with CNOOC.
- Petronas said the agreement builds on a long-standing working relationship with CNOOC. It strengthens cooperation in LNG supply while supporting China’s economic growth and national clean energy agenda.
- He noted that it advances shared goals on energy security and a lower-carbon future, extending beyond LNG supply into a deeper strategic partnership.
- Malaysia remains a key LNG exporter, with supplies reaching about 27.6m mt in 2025, according to S&P Global Energy. Japan was the largest buyer at 9.7m mt, followed by South Korea with 7.7m mt and China with 7.3m mt.
