REFINING: ONGC Considering Setting Up Refinery in Jamnagar

India’s ONGC is considering setting up a 10-12m tons/year refinery in Jamnagar, the same city where Reliance operates the world’s largest refinery, Bloomberg reports citing a source familiar with the matter.
- The refinery will produce more petrochemicals and less of fuels, the person said.
- Besides Reliance, Nayara Energy also operates a refinery in Vadinar, a few kilometers away from Jamnagar.
- ONGC has been seeking to diversify its portfolio to shield its core business from volatile oil prices by entering refining and petrochemical sectors, trading LNG and growing its renewable capacity.
