NEC Director Hassett speaking on Fox Business says the White House has multiple options following the court decision to strike down Trump's IEEPA tariffs:
- First, the White House will see what happens on appeal (Hassett says the decision will be overturned).
- And says there are 3-4 other ways to implement tariffs: with "different numbers" to start "right now"; different approaches to put things in place; and do things that were done in the last administration. Some options could take multiple months. [Presumably Hassett is referring to for 1) the Trade Act of 1974 allowing tariffs up to 15% for up to 150 days; 2/3) sectoral Section 232 and Section 301 tariffs].
- But they are not pursuing those at this time, because the White House is confident the court decision will be overturned.
- Hassett says there will still be more trade deals in the coming weeks - at the end of last week, 3 deals were ready for the President's decision.
