POLAND: MPC Members Signal Caution With Further Rate Cuts: BBG

Oct-15 13:07

Monetary Policy Council members Gabriela Maslowska and Henryk Wnorowski have spoken in separate interviews with Bloomberg News. Highlights below (via BBG):

  • “We have to be very cautious,” Maslowska said. “There is a lot of truth” in comments about the limited scope to further trim rates this year, she added.
  • Wnorowski said that “at the moment it seems to me that leaving rates unchanged in November is more likely than cutting them.” He doesn’t rule out a reduction next month if the central bank’s inflation projection — due in November — shows little upward pressure on prices.
  • He said, however, that threats of a “second wave of inflation are real.”
  • Maslowska forecast the benchmark gradually declining to “around 4%” next year, while Wnorowski said the terminal rate will be “closer to 4% than to 3%.”
