NBP: MPC Awaits Next Set Of Data Before Deciding Whether To Cut Rates

Apr-03 14:04

Governor Adam Glapinski says that his earlier comments were not as hawkish as portrayed in the media. He notes that the MPC could cut rates if there is no doubt that inflation is falling towards the target, which could be even before it reaches the target, something the MPC did in autumn 2023.

  • The Governor says that he "could not be more dovish" than today. He notes that "we have one set of data" and are "waiting for another set of data" to confirm the trend. If data continues to fall on the dovish side of expectations, the MPC will reduce rates.
