Anna Paulson, a senior Fed economist, will be the next president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, the bank said Thursday. She succeeds Patrick Harker, who retires June 30 after 10 years. She will vote on monetary policy next year.

Paulson, 60, currently leads the Chicago Fed’s research and policy analysis work, where she's worked since 2001. Before that, she was assistant professor of finance at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University. (See MNI Interview with Paulson)

She's expert on financial markets and institutions, with particular knowledge of the insurance industry, and established the Chicago Fed’s Insurance Initiative, which analyzes financial stability and regulatory issues in the insurance industry on behalf of the Federal Reserve System, according to her official bio.

The Philadelphia Fed district encompasses eastern and central Pennsylvania, Delaware, and southern New Jersey.
