UK headline CPI rose by 3.5% in the 12 months to April, up from 2.6% recorded in March, the Office for National Statistics said Wednesday.
The largest upward contributions to the monthly change in CPI annual rates came from housing and household services, transport, and recreation and culture; the largest, partially offsetting, downward contribution came from clothing and footwear, the stats agency noted.
Core CPI CPI rose by 3.8% in the 12 months to April 2025, up from 3.4%. The CPI goods annual rate rose from 0.6% to 1.7%, while the CPI services annual rate rose from 4.7% to 5.4%. The jump in services prices was well in excess of expectations and will be eyed nervously by policymakers at the Bank of England.
