Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski said on Tuesday that he is “hopeful” that the EU’s EUR150 billion SAFE loan facility for defence spending can be agreed this month.

“I do believe that we will manage to find a consensus and finalise work on the file hopefully in May,” he said.

While SAFE remains the top priority of the Polish EU presidency, Domanski said there was a “broad understanding” that there would be a need for additional instruments to help finance the bloc’s defence boost. (See MNI POLICY: EU Officials Ignore Legal Warning On Defence Loans)
