MNI BRIEF: Hawkesby Appointed Temporary RBNZ Governor

Christian Hawkesby has been appointed as Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand for a six-month term by the Minister of Finance Nicola Willis, upon the recommendation of the RBNZ Board.   

Hawkesby had been acting governor following Adrian Orr’s sudden resignation last month. (See MNI INTERVIEW: RBNZ Reform To Depend On New Governor)

The RBNZ Board has commenced the recruitment process to nominate for appointment a Governor who will serve for five years. During the recruitment process the monetary policy committee will consist of three internal RBNZ staff and three external members. The MPC Chair holds a casting vote.
