The new French 2026 budget proposes a deficit of 4.7%, French PM Sebastien Lecornu told the National Assembly Tuesday, adding that the estimate must still be below 5% by the end of negotiations with other political parties.
The cost of suspension would be around EUR400mn in 2026 and EUR1.8bn in 2027, he said, but would be offset by other budget savings, mooting the possibility of an exceptional tax on the super wealthy.
