MNI BRIEF: European Lobby Supports China Medical Device Limits

The European Chamber of Commerce in China supports the end goal of the EU’s recent measure to restrict Chinese medical device manufacturers from public procurement tenders, aimed at ensuring reciprocal market access, a statement from the chamber on Wednesday said.

While urging caution in the application of trade defence tools, the chamber noted in a recent survey 100% of respondents in the medical devices sector reported missing business opportunities in 2024 due to market access and regulatory barriers.

Any re-start to a shelved trade agreement between China and the EU would require significant updates to reflect the current geo-political, regulatory and economic environment, a leader from the chamber recently told MNI. (See MNI INTERVIEW:China Agreement Would Need Overhaul)
