The European Commission has welcomed the decision of the Dutch government to lift its controls over the Nexperia chip company, with an official saying the news was the "start of a de-escalation of the situation", which would avoid "any imminent crisis."
"Now what we need to see is evidence of the restoration of the flows of chips from China to European industry," EC Trade Spokesperson Olof Gill said , noting it was the "next logical step to unblocking the situation."
Gill said EU and Chinese officials would be in touch "including at senior official level today".
