China and the EU are likely to announce formal cooperation in areas such as green transition and climate change when leaders meet at the EU-China summit on Thursday, a statement from the European Chamber of Commerce in China said on Tuesday.

EU representatives are expected to raise the current trade imbalance and the need to remove market access and regulatory barriers facing European firms operating in China. Officials may also address recent rare earth export controls and the increasing restrictions on European firms’ ability to access procurement processes in China, the statement added.

The outcome of the upcoming China-EU Leaders’ Summit scheduled is likely to depend on Brussels' negotiations with Washington by the July 9 deadline to avoid steep U.S. tariffs, advisors in Beijing told MNI. (See MNI: China Advisors - EU Talks Hinge On Europe)
