The office of President Javier Milei has confirmed previous reports from La Nacion stating that Minister for Foreign Affairs Gerardo Werthein has resigned from office. Clarin reported on 21 Oct that Werthein was in line to be replaced as part of a ministerial reshuffle that Milei has planned for 27 Oct, the day after mid-term elections take place. It would appear that Werthein decided to leave of his own accord, rather than be formally removed from his position.
- Argentinian media had speculated that Werthein had experienced run-ins with powerful Economy Minister Santiago Caputo. Critics on social media claim that Werthein, who travelled to the White House with Milei for his meeting with US President Donald Trump, was responsible for the confusion that led to Trump claiming that the US support package for Argentina was contingent on Milei's party 'winning' the 26 October midterms.
- Clarin reports that according to its sources within the presidential palce, Secretary of Worship Nahuel Sotelo, who currently reports into Caputo, is a possible replacement for Werthein.
