US STOCKS: Midday Equities Roundup: Carry-Over Support in Nasdaq

  • Stocks trade mixed ahead midday Wednesday, the tech-heavy Nasdaq index outperforming as hardware makers trade strong in the first half. Currently, the DJIA trades down 159.35 points (-0.35%) at 45139.36, S&P E-Minis up 19 points (0.3%) at 6444.25, Nasdaq up 173.6 points (0.8%) at 21453.24.
  • Late Tuesday buying in tech and communication services sectors carried over to the current session with Alphabet (+8.78%) and Apple (+2.93%). Other leading gainers included: The Campbell's Company +4.39%, Tesla +3.71%, Paramount Skydance +3.25%, DoorDash +3.14% and Western Digital +3.10%.
  • Conversely, Energy and Industrial sector shares led decliners in the first half, oil and gas shares reversing the prior session gains as crude prices fell (WTI -1.64 at 63.95): ConocoPhillips -4.49%, Halliburton -4.32%, APA Corp -4.19% and Diamondback Energy -3.71%.
  • Capital goods shares weighed on the Industrials sector: Axon Enterprise -2.58%, Boeing -2.06%, Carrier Global -1.80% and Deere & Co -1.57%.

US STOCKS: Early Equities Roundup: IT, Comms & Materials Lead Gainers

  • Stocks are firmer Monday, rebounding from Friday's lows while SPX eminis and the Nasdaq remain off last week's record highs. Currently, the DJIA trades up 472.96 points (1.09%) at 44052.33, S&P E-Minis up 75.5 points (1.21%) at 6338.5, Nasdaq up 315.1 points (1.5%) at 20962.37.
  • Communication Services, Information Technology and Materials sector shares led gainers in the first half: IDEXX Laboratories surged +26.48% after revenue beat expectations. Meanwhile, materials stocks trade strong: Martin Marietta Materials +5.42%, Franklin Resources +4.89%, Williams-Sonoma +4.33%, Vulcan Materials +3.08% and Newmont Corp +3.18%.
  • As did tech some shares: Super Micro Computer +3.80%, Amphenol +3.61%, Monolithic Power Systems +3.14%, Ingersoll Rand +3.65% and  PG&E Corp +3.43%.
  • Not all IT stocks gained Monday, as ON Semiconductor declined -10.84% following weak earnings. Elsewhere, LyondellBasell Industries -3.41%, Kraft Heinz -2.68%, Berkshire Hathaway -2.65%, Dexcom-1.83%, Paramount Global -1.81% and Warner Bros Discovery -1.55%.
