POLAND: Local Betting Markets Indicate Trzaskowski Regains Poise
May-28 07:04
Rafał Trzaskowski caught up with his rival Karol Nawrocki amid a series of scandals. Local bookmakers no longer see Nawrocki as the front-runner. Fortuna and Superbet give both candidates even odds of victory (1.90), STS favours Trzaskowski (1.80 to 2.00) and BetFan shows a slight advantage for Nawrocki (1.82 to 1.92). Polymarket shows a 64% probability of a Trzaskowski win, almost the highest level since the first round of voting. A rolling average of support for Trzaskowski in ewybory's 'street poll' (updated every night) also remains marginally above the breakeven level.
Karol Nawrocki filed a lawsuit against Onet after the news website published a source report accusing him of helping arrange escorts for guests of a hotel where he worked during his student years. His allies confirmed that he refrained from using an expedited procedure for adjudicating election-related matters, which would allow courts to issue a verdict within 24 hours and consider an appeal within another day.
Third-place finisher Sławomir Mentzen is expected to unveil his stance ahead of the run-off later today. He interviewed both candidates asking them to sign his list of eight postulates. Nawrocki signed all of them, while Trzaskowski committed to four and tried to negotiate the others. Mentzen has been trying to maintain strategic ambiguity, but other senior members of his Confederation party signalled their preference for Nawrocki.
The Finance Ministry will offer PLN6bn-9bn of OK0128, WS0429, WZ0330, PS0730, IZ0831, DS1033 and DS1034 bonds today. This represents a slight narrowing of the size of the offering relative to the preliminary monthly issuance schedule, which mentioned an auction for PLN5bn-10bn worth of POLGBs.
