CEO of Kuwait Petroleum Corp said Kuwait and Saudi Arabia aim to complete engineering and development work on the offshore Dorra gas field in 2024 despite the unresolved dispute with Iran about rights to develop the field according to Energy Intelligence. Iran claims the field partly lies within its territorial waters.
- “We are now at a stage of essentially revalidating the front-end engineering and design (Feed),” said CEO Sheikh Nawaf al-Sabah. "The Feed … will be completed by next year.”
- "We will then ultimately move to FID on the facilities that we need to build and move from there," he said.
- “Under the UN Convention [on the Law of the Sea] and any other international convention, the field lies squarely within the continental shelf of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia," said al-Sabah. "And it's a joint field completely."
- Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are to equally split the expected 1bcf/d of natural gas from the Dorra field although he provided no development timeline.
