Solid quarter for the Peru financial services holding company with 21% ROE overall driven by 47% ROE in the insurance business and 44% ROE in the wealth management segment.
The banking segment ROE was 14.4%, down sequentially from the 1Q of 15.5% but much better than the 11.1% ROE of 2Q 2024. Overall, the profile of the bank was one of slow growth with a stable net interest margin, a declining cost of risk and an unchanged NPLs trend.
IFS maintained tight expense control and focused on IT investments to improve efficiency, generating a low efficiency ratio of 35.9%.
The bank subsidiary maintained sufficient capital ratios with a total capital ratio of 16.9%. Common equity Tier 1 (CET1) was 11.7%, far exceeding the regulatory minimum of 6.8%. CET1 last quarter was 11.6% and 11.2% a year ago.
The bank subsidiary Banco Internacional del Peru (BINTPE; Baa1/BBB-/BBB) issued subordinated debt January 2025 at T+206.7bp to the Dec 2029 call which was last quoted T+187bp.
