Indonesia has launched a multiparty gas swap mechanism to secure domestic supply while meeting export obligations, upstream regulator SKK Migas announced Aug. 22, Platts said.
- The scheme will redirect 27 billion Btu/day of gas from the West Natuna Supply Group to state-owned distributor PGN.
- Physical deliveries will be carried out by Medco E&P Grissik and PetroChina International Jabung in South Sumatra.
- The arrangement aims to safeguard volumes for existing industries rather than expand demand.
- The move follows recent disruptions in West Java and Sumatra due to supply outages. Medco Energi, central to the swap, has already redirected volumes originally intended for Singapore to domestic buyers.
