• The NBH is expected to keep the base rate on hold at 6.50% again this month, sticking to its ‘cautious and patient’ approach to monetary policy amid growing calls from government officials for lower rates.

• Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto holds talks in Washington DC in preparation for a planned summit to be attended by the US, Russian and Ukrainian presidents.
• Yesterday, Szijjarto said Hungary has no plan to block the EU’s 19th package of sanctions against Russia over its war in Ukraine. However, he added that Hungary would consider legal actions over REPowerEU energy plans following an agreement among EU countries to support a ban on Russian gas purchases by the end of 2027.
• Refiner Mol reported a fire at its Danube refinery in Szazhalombatta, central Hungary, according to state news agency MTI. Mol says the fire, which is localized, erupted late Monday.

The FOMC's assessments of risks to its updated forecasts in September tilted a little more pessimistic on growth and unemployment than in the previous edition in June, in keeping with concerns expressed in the Statement about rising risks to the labor market.
