Ministers have voted to remove Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara from office in a unanimous vote that risks a major public backlash, as well as potentially raising investor concerns regarding the rule of law. Baharav-Miara was a staunch critic of PM Benjamin Netanyahu and was the chief prosecutor of the ongoing corruption case against the PM. The Times of Israel, which called the unanimous Cabinet vote a "seismic moment for Israel’s system of government," notes, "The High Court of Justice has ruled that the attorney general’s dismissal will not go into effect until after justices rule on the legality of the dismissal process, which government watchdog groups and the attorney general have described as unlawful."
