EMISSIONS: Greece Consumes 44% of 2025 Carbon Budget In Q1

{GR}{2Greece’s power sector emitted 4.5mn tonnes CO2e in 1Q 2025, accounting for 44% of its 2025 carbon budget and the highest Q1 level in three years, largely driven by a surge in fossil gas use, according to the Green Tank.
- Emissions were 23% higher year-on-year, with fossil gas accounting for 54% of total emissions, the highest share in over a decade.
- The emissions in Q1 placed Greece off-track from its National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) targets.
