PERU: Gov’t Preparing Defence Bill, Prosecutors Raid Home Of President’s Brother

President Boluarte announced yesterday that the Government is preparing a bill for the defence of national sovereignty. In a speech during a ceremony for National Defence Day, Boluarte said that "we are aware that new threats to our sovereignty have emerged, and it is imperative that the state defends itself, not only in terms of territorial integrity, but also in the full applicability of our Constitution and our laws.”
In other news, a Special Prosecutors' Team Against Corruption in Power raided the apartment of the President’s brother, Nicanor Boluarte, yesterday, according to a report in Andina. The raid was said to target over 10 additional properties, including public offices and properties belonging to Boluarte's close associates. Transportation and Communications Minister Cesar Sandoval said that the operation was a political persecution aimed to emotionally influence President Boluarte.
