EMISSIONS: EU Signals Flexibility On CBAM For Non-EU Electricity Markets

Jul-10 10:00

The EC has committed to work closely with non-EU countries to potentially provide CABM flexibility on the electricity sector via market coupling between EU Member States and contracting parties, following the meeting between Energy Community Secretariat and the EC, on 1 July according to Energy Community.

  • Discussions focused on the risk CBAM could pose to cross-border electricity flows, market liquidity, and renewables investment in neighbouring countries working to integrate with the EU power market.
  • Participants agreed on the need to complete market coupling between EU Member States and contracting parties, while avoiding unintended consequences from CBAM that could undermine regional decarbonisation efforts.
  • The EC also launched a public consultation on possible legislative changes to the CBAM Regulation that will run until 26 Aug 2026.
