EMISSIONS: EC Issues Legal Warnings to 12 Members Over Delayed ETS Transposition

{EThe EC has issued reasoned opinions to more than 12 Member States for failing to fully transpose revised EU ETS and aviation ETS rules into national law by the 31 December 2023 deadline, it said on Wednesday.
- The updated ETS Directive expands coverage to maritime transport, tightens free allowance allocations, and strengthens decarbonisation funding.
- The EC said failure to complete transposition risks undermining internal market integrity and 2030 climate goals.
- Member States have two months to comply or face possible EU court referral.
- Affected countries include Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Spain, Latvia, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, and Finland.
