The 1.5m mtpa Portovaya LNG plant was launched in September 2022, after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in Feb of that year.
- Most of its LNG cargoes from the plant have been sent to Turkey or Greece, with several heading to China, Reuters said earlier in 2024.
- Cargoes have also arrived into Spain from the facility, according to Upstream, citing Reuters.
- Cryogas-Vysotsk LNG is based in Leningrad oblast with an export capacity of 820k mtpa, according to Novatek’s website. It is owned by Novatek and Gazprom.
- Finland and Sweden traditionally took some small volumes of LNG from Russia's Vysotsk terminal into import terminals at Pori and Tornio, which are not connected to the wider Finnish grid, Platts said.
- The EU imported some 14.9 million mt of Russian LNG in 2024, more than the 13.9 million mt sourced in 2023, Platts data showed.
- While trying to move away from Russian gas, the continent still imports Russian LNG, often via long-term contracts singed before 2022. Most buyers shun Russian spot tonnes.
