US NATGAS: Bergum Floats Shipping Gas from Alaska North Slope

US Secretary of the Interior Dough Burgam floated the idea of storing natural gas in Alaska’s North Slope and shipping it directly from there, Bloomberg reported.
- Burgum said the proposal has drawn interest from unnamed foreign invesntors.
- “It could be a second project, just tapping into that gas field and figuring out a way to move it out by ship,” Burgum said
- Shipping the gas would first require it to be liquefied through an export facility. Icy North Slope conditions would make it difficult to construct a terminal there, although Bergum said that for part of the year there is a path through the ice.
- The planned 20m mtpa Alaska LNG project is under developments and includes a new 800-mile long pipeline (1,288 km).

- Tsy futures show little reaction (FVZ5 at 109-10.75 from 109-10.5 at the cutoff) after the latest $70B 5Y note auction (91282CPA3) tails slightly: 3.710% high yield vs. 3.709% WI; 2.34x bid-to-cover vs. 2.36x prior.
- Peripheral stats: Indirect take-up slips to 59.42% from 60.48% prior, directs slip to 28.64% vs. 30.74% prior, while primary dealer take-up climbs to 11.94% vs. 8.78% prior.
