EMISSIONS: Alternative Marine Fuels Set To Accelerate After 2030

{2Q} EMIThe adoption of low-carbon marine fuels will accelerate after 2030 amid tighter climate regulations, Maersk Oil Trading CEO Emma Mazhari said.
- She said that the 2030–2040 period will mark a real volume shift to low-carbon fuels, with EU ETS and fuel standards already boosting supply in Europe.
- Tata NYK Shipping noted regardless of geopolitical volatility, decarbonisation needs to be a priority.
- Mitsui O.S.K. Lines CEO Takeshi Hashimoto said shipping firms will initially focus on LNG and methanol, while also exploring wind-assisted propulsion, before scaling green ammonia, green methanol, and biomethane.
- The verified maritime emissions under EU ETS in 2024 was at 72mn tonnes, accounting for 6% of the total verified emissions.

- EU-Ukraine: An emergency videoconference of EU foreign ministers has been convened by High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas to discuss the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin (see entry below). EU leaders have sought to convince Trump to invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the Alaska summit, but to no avail so far. Foreign ministers will also discuss the situation in the Middle East, with a focus on the situation in Gaza. Due to start at 16:00CET (10:00ET, 15:00BST).
