BOE: Speakers this week

May-11 15:04
  • Now that the election is out of the way, we are getting more post-April MPC meeting speeches and comments from MPC members.
  • This morning we heard from Megan Greene, we remain of the view that she will vote for a hike in June if the Straight of Hormuz remains closed.
  • On Wednesday we will hear from Catherine Mann and we will be closely watching if there are any clues as to whether she is likely to support a June hike (we think she will if the Straight of Hormuz remains closed – see our BOE Review for more on individual voting intentions).
  • Huw Pill is due to give a fireside chat at NatWest on Thursday in a speech in which he is likely to outline more comprehensively the reasons for his vote for a hike in April. This is unlikely to be market moving with his views already well known through the market).
  • As we noted in our BOE Review, we think that we need Pill, Greene and Mann plus two out of Bailey, Lombardelli and Ramsden for the BOE to reach quorum and hike. The latter three are not due to speak this week – although now that the quiet period is over (post-elections), there is a chance they appear unscheduled in either in print or on TV.
