PetroChina is set to close the last remaining 200kb/d No.1 crude unit at Dalian Petrochemical Corp refinery on June 30, broadly in line with an earlier plan, according to Reuters sources.
- The halt at PetroChina’s biggest north China refinery, mainly supplied by Russian ESPO, will be followed by the secondary processing units in the following month.
- The shutdown is the first full closure of a state-run plant.
- Reports last year suggested PetroChina was set to shut the 410kb/d refinery around mid-2025 and potentially replace it with a smaller facility at another location.
- A final investment decision for a proposed new refinery complex in Changxing island has yet to be made, sources said.
- PetroChina will start drawing down crude oil and other feedstocks inventory this month and clean up all products inventory by the end of August, the sources said.
