EMISSIONS: Ireland Hits 30-Year Low in Energy Emissions

Ireland’s energy-related emissions fell 1.3% to its lowest level in over 30 years in 2024, despite an 2.3% increase in overall energy use, marking an 11% drop since 2021, according to Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).
- The electricity sector led the decline, with emissions down 7.5%, driven by record solar deployment, increased bioenergy use, and growth in heat pump installations.
- Renewables met 14.5% of Ireland’s energy needs in 2024, but grid constraints and growing electricity demand outpaced clean generation capacity, with it continues to import over 75% of its energy.
- Transport emissions dropped just 1.2% amid slow uptake of public transport and high reliance on private vehicles, while heating emissions rose 2.4% due to cooler weather.
- SEAI urged to accelerate investment in renewable energy technologies and grid infrastructure, warning that delay would risk missing climate targets.

- Futures extending lows again, sellers meet limited buy interest, low overall volumes volumes at Jun'25 10Y trades down to 110-30 (-7.5), total volume just over 151k. 10Y yield climbs to 4.3676% (+.0427).
- Initial Technical support below at 110-15/109-08 (Low Apr 15 / 11 and the bear trigger); Continued weakness would refocus attention on 109-08, the Apr 11 low. A break of this level would resume the downtrend.
