US TSYS: Focus on Midweek Ceasefire Deadline

Apr-20 19:32
  • Middle East uncertainty weighed on sentiment Monday, Treasuries extend session lows after Pres Trump Bbg headline it is "unlikely" he will extend the ceasefire with Iran. Bloomberg reported "Trump said the expiration of the ceasefire occurs on Wednesday. It’s Wednesday evening Washington time.”
  • Iran has not committed to attending the second round of peace talks in Pakistan tomorrow.
  • TYM6 tapped 111-12.5 (-10) low before inching back to 111-21 afte the bell. Technical support to watch is 110-16, the Apr 2 low. The broad technical picture unchanged after the recent clearance of resistance into the 50-day EMA. This opens further upside which initially targets 111-31, the 50% retracement for the Iran War bear leg posted between Mar 2nd - 27th.
  • No data Monday & Fed in policy blackout through month end - focus on tomorrow: ADP weekly jobs data, Retail Sales, Business Inventories and Pending Home Sales. March's advance retail sales report (Tuesday, 0830ET) is expected to see a marked pickup vs prior months - but this is only in nominal terms, with most post-release analysis likely to focus more on core categories and the potential translation into volumes.
  • The 1.4% M/M rise seen by Bloomberg consensus (0.6% prior) would mark the highest since a year earlier (1.5% March 2025) and the 3rd-biggest rise in the last 4 years.
