BTP: 10Y Spread Widens Most In A Month

Despite good news for the Greek short end (2Y yields sustaining the drop after Mitsotakis' comments on early bailout debt repayments), that hasn't translated elsewhere on the GGB curve or in EGB peripheries.
- In fact, 10Y BTP spreads vs Bunds have risen 4.7bp today to 174bp, the widest since June 8. This is the biggest single-day widening since May 4. (2Y Italy yields are steady after the GGB move.)
- Not many catalysts evident for today's Italy move but it's part of an overall recent trend including 18bp of widening from the post-Apr 2022 closing low set at 156bp on Jun 16.
- This mirrors the shift higher in ECB terminal rate pricing which has added about 10bp of tightening to the path in the past 3 weeks.
GREECE: Mitsotakis Pledges Early Repayment Of Bailout Debt

- Greece Prime Minister Mitsotakis has pledged to make early repayment on two years of bailout debt, with the early payments to be done by year-end.
- It’s with a view to regaining its investment-grade rating this year.
- 2Y GGBs have seen yields increase 4bps on the comments to Bloomberg TV, but are still -2bps on the day for a large twist steepening on the day with 10YY +8bps on the day.
