Ship tracking data suggests Venezuelan crude shipments have begun to slow this week, although the US military build-up in the Caribbean have not halted flows entirely, Argus said.
- There are no new cargoes of Merey, Venezuela’s main export grade to US refiners, scheduled to be exported to the US this week, according to Kpler data
- A Chevron source in Venezuela also reported no imminent shipments, though exports to China appear unaffected.
- Chevron continues to operate in the country under a modified sanctions waiver, resuming exports to the US in August.
- Venezuela produces around 1m b/d of crude, with roughly 150,000 b/d sent to the US in October. Chevron alone exported about 400,000 b/d earlier in 2025.
- Market sources told Argus that US demand for heavy crude often eases late in the year as refiners work down inventories, which may be contributing to the slowdown.
