ISRAEL: Trump-'Herzog Should Pardon Netanyahu'

Mar-05 16:17

Following a cryptic X post from journalist Barak Ravid hinting at a 'major headline', which garnered significant market interest given the geopolitical situation, Israel's Channel 12 reveals the story to be comments from US President Donald Trump focused on Israel's domestic politics.

  • In the interview, Trump said "Herzog should grant [PM Benjamin] Netanyahu a pardon today." According to him, President Herzog is a "disgrace" and he has already promised him five times that he would do so. "I don't want anything to bother Bibi except the war with Iran," the president clarified, adding: "Herzog is a disgrace. Tell him I'm exposing him."
  • Trump's intervention is nonetheless notable, given that Israel has to hold legislative elections by late October, and the issue of Netanyahu's bribery and fraud charges and an ongoing five-year corruption trial remain a millstone around the PM's neck going into the vote. Opinion polling in late February showed Netanyahu's right-wing Likud party on course to remain the largest in the Knesset, but unclear if his far-right coalition would retain a majority of seats. There has not been any polling published since the launch of attacks with the US on Iran.

DENMARK: Danish Central Bank Confirm No Intervention in FX for January

Feb-03 16:03

"*DANISH CENTRAL BANK MADE NO FX INTERVENTIONS LAST MONTH" - bbg

A notable headline given the geopolitical (and therefore market) tensions over Greenland from early January - which did spur some outside speculation that the Danish central bank could be forced to intervene in currency markets to maintain the peg. EURDKK traded 7.4730 in early January before fading.
