Designs for the Soyuz-Vostok gas pipeline linking Russia to China via Mongolia will be completed in 2023 according to Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Viktoria Abramchenko.
- “The feasibility study of this project has been approved; route surveys and studies were completed and relevant efforts continue. The design stage kicked off. [Design] completion will be in the next year.” she said.
- Gazprom previously said the design for the pipeline began in February 2022 and construction of the project would take place in 2024.
- The pipeline is set to have a capacity of 50 bln cubic metres and is to be used as a way to direct Russian gas flows to new markets now that flows to Europe have mostly stopped.
