Slovakia is considering legal action against the European Union over the planned suspension of Russian gas supplies, Prime Minister Robert Fico said, cited by Bloomberg.
- Fico has instructed ministers to prepare analysis of options for legal challenges to the move, after which the government will consider further steps.
- “Everything will depend on how the European Commission fulfils its commitments to Slovakia,” Fico said.
- Fico wants to continue Russian gas supplies, claiming that Slovakia will be among the most affected EU states by the halt.
- The EU plans to phase out the remaining gas imports by the end of 2027, when a ban on imports under long-term contracts takes effect.
