The Arctic Metagaz LNG tanker is heading towards the Suez Canal, with shipping data indicating an expected arrival on Jan. 2, Bloomberg said.
- This marks the vessel’s second southbound passage through the route since November.
- The tanker is part of Russia’s so-called shadow fleet, used to move cargoes while avoiding sanctions. Last month, tracking data suggested it loaded LNG at Russia’s storage facility near Murmansk before setting course south.
- Most LNG carriers stopped using the Suez Canal and Red Sea in early 2024 after Houthi attacks in the region intensified, making the Arctic Metagaz an outlier as it continues to transit the route.
